Am I getting the run around?
Hey Guys, I bought an 03 A4 with 31,000 miles over the summer and I recently brought it in to have some warranty work done, or so i thought. My ESP button was chipped, The buttons on the radio were chipping off and my brakes were squeaking pretty badly. I brought it in and got a phone call later in the day saying that my brakes had pitted rotors from braking to hard and they are not covered under warranty, however, they were able to replace the pads under warranty. Second, they pulled out my radio to replace and said that when they pulled it out there was some residue on the back, like some kind of cleaner, and they were unable to warranty the radio because it was possible that I could have tried to clean it and scrapped off the buttons. I was shocked. I've owned the car for 6 months and never put anything on the radio. And even worse, if there is a residue back there, how did it get back there.
Heres the real kicker. I called them back and asked why they weren't covered and they said that Audi doesn't cover stuff like that, or things that I break. They said that if they tried to warranty it, audi would deny the claim and the dealership would get stuck paying for it. When I picked up my car, I noticed on the bill there was an extra line added, "Customer request replace card holder". Card holder replaced. They put a brand new card holder in which coincidentially is right next to the ESP button they replaced. So you can explain to audi how "I"(the dealer) broke my card holder but you can't explain to them how the buttons on my radio faded off? Is this common for audi? My BMW 3 series is still under warranty and whenever something needs addressing its always done with no questions asked. I was suprised. Should I not by comparing the two?
thanks for your input guys. oh and for any local members, this was Bell Audi I went to
Sounds like maybe ya need to take it to a different dealer.... but thats how alot of dealers are unless your from a smaller town where ya know everyone and what not the dealer is usially going to try and screw you...... there are exceptions to that but most of the time they only care about getting your money.... if it were me i would go down there and stay there untill they agree to fix that stuff under warranty
thanks. i'll try your suggestion of trying another dealer. Problem in is there far between. There are not that many audi dealers in New Jersey which I found wierd. Their very spread out.
Yes you are getting the run around. Some dealers are better than others. I just took mine in for its 40k service on Thurs and they replaced the rear pads and rotors, because they were scored and pitted!!! He said they had to, because its a safety issue and they have to fix safety issues. The fading on the buttons is common and they only warranty that for 12mo/12k. Befriend your mechanic, you'll get more for free that way.
I know what ya mean about the dealers being few and far between we have 2 in oregon one in portland and one in bend which is like 5 hours away.... Im lucky to have made friends at sunset in portland cuz they have really been taking care of me
The peeling of interior items is fairly common and should be covered. The only reson ive failed to cover something due to residue is sticking buttons on a radio or ac due to pop spillage. As far as the rotors go, they should be covered unless they are blue. Blue rotors are a sign of abuse, pitted rotors are more a sign of rust.
