Am I making a smart choice???
Hello! I'm new to this board, so I wanted to say hi to everyone. Iwas also hoping I could get some very honestinput fromthose of you who are 'modding'enthusiasts.
I want to buythis B6 A4 1.8T, 6 speed.
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...amp;cardist=20
It's sophisticated, practical, and rare. What I'm hoping youguys could validate for me is that it's more difficult making the power than it is supporting the power. My concern is that once I mod it, it'll lose all its driveability like my current car, which is a Lexus IS300. I make 452 rwhp in my IS300,and producing the power was relatively cheap and easy ($4500). Supporting it, on the other hand, has been impossible and VERYexpensive. I've had to rebuild the block....gone through three trannys...three clutches....etc.In order to support 400+ whp in the B6 A4, it seemsall I would need to change is therods and clutch and I'm good. It also seems I'll have to spend a lot more than $4500 to make more the 400 whp too, no?
One more question, for the guys making >350 whp, are they typically using just the chips, or are they going stand-alone??? I've read a lot about theREVOsoftware for the B6, but I haven'tfound much on stand-alone.Is the REVO software adequatewitha bigger turbo, larger injectors, water/meth...???
I'm so sorry if this topic has been beaten to death. I was just hoping for some personal insight from thoseof you who have either been down this road already or have witnessed it... Thanks a ton!

it'll be expensive, but the tranny will hold it... try www.034motorsports.com for standalones. you'll need alot of things to get there.
basically you'll need just about everything in my sig plus whats on this thread... https://www.audiforums.com/m_768563/tm.htm
i'm building mine up now... you obv wont need my current turbo or chip... your trans is also fine.

Thats the exact car I plan on getting except I can't deal with the Gray color, im trying to find it in black at a stealership.
If you see any black AWD Ultra Sports in and VA/MD/DC shoot me a PM!

Thanks for the info FasterA4. It looks like you're off to a good start with your project. G/L with it!
Kleptofall, I'll def let you know if I spot what you're looking for. I'd prefer silver, myself. All the ones I've found are auto.

read the bottom of this, it will explain what turbo + setup you'll want. to get that kind of power your looking to spend atleast $7-8g.

400chp will be a lot cheaper than making 400whp. check the newbie guide for more info

stand-alone will be MUCH more expensive, and not yield that much more power. tuning has really advanced for audi's this past year. REVO is really good for b6's, you could also do unitronics or c-tapp (eurodyne).

search big turbo in the a4 section and it should give you a lot of helpful threads

i wouldnt give more than $18k but audis (especially b6)s dont usually do standalone.. i only know of one running it...
it will take a lot more than a chip to get you to 400chp!
BT or BAT (APR 3+(gt28rs), or REVo with GTRS, GT28RS, gt2871r, gt3071r or others)
clutch (southbend OFE OR FE SS)
FMIC (Ractec, ER sport/comp), OCT, AWE and others are some
injectors
DV
manifold (apr comes with it) ATP or 034 tubi mani
TIP (turbo inlet pipe)
brakes
suspension
exhaust
test pipe or HFC
im sure im missing some stuff, search around, some kits are fairly complete and plug/play (apr) whereas others (revo) require you to source most parts individually)
here is a current GTRS build
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=184997
and a frontrak GT3071r build (almost 30 pages now) lots of good info about going above BT (BIG TURBO)
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178496
if you can do all the work yourself, $10k should get u started
$5500 APR 3+
$1000 FMIC (+ or - )
$600 Clutch
$1000 Exhaust
$1000 coilovers
$2000 (+) big brake
if you look around u can find some good deals in the classfieds, check here, www.audizine.com and www.audiworld.com
Good luck! its a great looking car and will turn a lot of heads!

This is awesome! I'm didn't expect to get this much feedback -GOOD feedback, at that. Another memberpointed me towards audigeeks & audizine also.
Let me say that until now,I've never given Audi/VW owners the credit they deserve. And now I'm giving it to you all! You put a LOT of work into your rides to make them 'street worthy' and keep them reliable. I always had this misperception that it tookalmost nothingto make a 1.8T and VR6 "fast"...as if it was as easy as the flick of a switch. It seemed that way b/c I commute back-n-forthpast EIP Tuning everyday and before I boostedmy IS300, I gotabsolutely WAXED byevery freakin 1.8T and VR6I came across...even when they sounded bone stock...LOL(even N/A, I had equal length headers, full exhaust, greddy emanage that was dyno tuned and I still got smoked)
I'm relieved to know that I'll have to focus more on piecing together the right components to produce power, rather thansearch for machine shopsto modify & strengthen everything to hold the power.
I'm aiming for the GT3071r/REVo combo. I suppose I'll find the answer, but does anyone know off the top whether an OEMTT(225 hp) diverter valve is adequate for a GT3071???
