Another potential buyer
I'm brand new to the forum and am thinking of buying a certified 2002 A4 3.0 tomorrow. Could you guys give me some advice on what to look for in the car? It has 43,000 miles, premium package, and is listed for $20,900. I have a WRX right now and love it, but want to step up to a little more luxury. I'm on NASIOC.com a lot and know the "try searching first" response so if that's your answer, please give me the keywords to search for, because I tried that and failed. Thanks, John.
the 3.0 is a great running engine, it doesn't have the power of a wrx but audi is luxury and great performance all around, I have had one problem with my 3.0 and it was the fuel pump at 50,000, other than that it is perfect. is the audi you are looking at quattro, I would buy the quattro if I was you, and the price seems pretty good. you won't regrate this purchase. there is not to many posts on the 3.0 but there is a few of us on here with them but you shouldn't have any problems for a long while.
I tried a bunch of different exhausts on my WRX and thought about upgrading with every performance part possible. It drove me nuts thinking about it all the time. I'm really just looking for a car that's going to get me from A to B with some style, a little power, good handling, and a sunroof. The Audi A4 3.0 satifies all that I think. The 1.8T really isn't even an option for me because I'm not looking for upgradeability.
Other than the fuel pump (which I believe I saw a recall for on here), what other potential problems or abnormal wear and tear items should I look for?

Well I bought the car and couldn't be happier with it. I drove an hour and a half to get it in Atlanta. This car is all I could imagine and more. I love not being able to hear the road noise on the highway, and when you step on the gas it just floats past everyone else. I haven't even taken it around a corner at high speed yet. All in all, I can see why people choose Audis. Too bad there isn't any snow in Georgia.
Welcome to the Audi family. Sounds like you made a perfect choice for a car (not that we're biased here).
I'll ditto on the fuel pump on my 1.8TQ. Seems like their lifespan is 50K. I replaced one at 48k then another at 102k. Other than that my car has been flawless.
It's true that mods on the 3.0 is limited and supercharger is a great (but expensive) upgrade. Since you're not looking to upgrade, just enjoy. Exhaust and suspension up grades are always available to you should you have that desire.
