any significant reasons to use premium gas?

I did a google search for premium gas and found this:

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...emiumgas_x.htm

To summarize it basically states that cars designed to use regular do not benefit from premium and cars designed to run on premium can run just fine on regular. What do you guys think? For now I've been using mid grade for my a4 but have been considering switching to premium but have decided to do some research first and see if it's worth the money? I know it helps prevent knocks but wouldn't a 97 a4 have a knock sensor that would adjust things to compensate?

if you use a search, you'll see that there were many debates on this subject.

the way i look at it is.... its only a few bucks more per fill up and audi calls for you to use 91+..so i'm going to use it. i use 93 everytime because i dont want to chance anything going wrong.

95 minimum Ron is recommended for all Audi's in the UK and lower effects the compression ratio which = less MPG and power so it must be down to USA emissions to use less octane fuel even though the UK beat the USA on emissions laws there seems to be some financial goal here

the knock sensor retards the timing to prevent engine damage from knocking and kills your performance/gas mileage and eventually the knock sensor itself. long term it hurts your 02 sensors and cat. deffinately use premiumthe cost difference of using premium compared to regular on a full tank is roughly $3-4. Id say its worth it. and its not even a question if you are chipped/BT.

I've found that I get better gas mileage using 93 rather than 87 or 91. Long term saving is an encouragement to use the highest grade possible, besides Audi says 91+

now we are getting into the engine which is the most important part, why add a turbo and use 89 Ron?? why do any upgrade and use low spec fuel there is no reasoning why even mod your car if alls your going to do is moan about the MPG, now there is a mouth full for you;)

Ya I noticed that other thread and everyone said they use 91 or better but I didn't see any significant reasons why. I just wanted to understand the logic behind it.

Did you read all the posts?

Reasons why:

#1 THE VEHICLE REQUIRES PER AUDI at least 91 octane (us)

Why use 93?

#2 increased fuel mileage

#3 MORE POWER!

#4 Your engine will run better and remain cleaner

#5 Long term saving is an encouragement to use the highest grade possible

Bump, I always use 93. Its only a few dollars more. You mean to tell me you own an AUDI and you cant afford $3 per tankful to take care of your baby? Stick a crowbar in your wallet and always use 93 octane. Always.

93 wont give you better mileage than 91, unless your engine isn't running right.

You won't get more power from 93 than 91, unless your engine isn't running right.

Your engine wont run better on 93 than 91, unless there is something wrong with your engine.

I use 93 because I have a 93 octane chip and in NJ, most stations sell 93 not 91.
