Default anyone have any trade-in experience

ok, so i think i found a 1.8T that i not only want, but can afford. its at an audi dealership and seems to be a great deal (45kmiles), '00, premium sound, cold weather, etc etc. the car is selling for 13.9k, and i'm seriously considering trading in my 01 2.8 for it (plus cash id imagine)

my question is this... should i rebadge the car, take out the hardwired detector, and put back in the stock airbox before i let them look at it (for trade in value), or should i just say Fvck it and just take whatever hit it might cause?

any advice would be stellar... thanks

I may have missed something, but why do you want to trade for an older car with a smaller motor?

Id deffinately at least put the airbox back in and the badges back on, the dealer will want to nit pick away at your car to decrease its already low trade in value. If I were you Id have some patience and sell it private party. Youd probably get a few $k more for it that way.

I agree with onepoint8tee. I just sold my '02 avant. Took out an autotrader ad. Took a few weeks before I started getting calls but when they started there was a lot of people interested. I got at least $2K more than a trade.

Don't trade it in! I was offered at most $6000 for my car and the dealership had the same one with at least 20,000 more miles on it, and they were selling it for 12,500!!!! What a bunch of bull.

I agree never trade in a car that is worth money or will is popular.. someone will buy it. Audis usually go quickly

I still don't get why the OP is trading a 01 2.8 AND CASH for a 00 1.8...

Seems crazy to me- but I'm also a big fan of my 2.8 (I say boo to 1.8's, especially when they are Q'd).
