I thought I had a tail light out... and had the dealership i purchased the vehicle at and they said it was a rear foglight... and it was only on one side. It's on the right side.

Yep you should have one rear foglight in the drivers side taillight. Perfectly normal. It's designed to not look normal to catch drivers attention.

 

yeah ive had a similar experence, one night a friend was driving behind me back to my house and when we got there he said that i had a tail light out. when i checked it out i had to explain to him that i only have a rear fog light on one side....

I still find it strange so i usually just trurn on the front fogs because they look hot.

 

well if you had them on both sides, it could be confused for a brake signal as well. It is wired and ready for a 2nd bulb, I think... just like I mentioned, the brake light confusion thing...

i still dont get the point of that rear fog light, is it so that people behind you see you when its foggy out?

 

yup, its so people behind you can see in deep fog...well my b5 has only a fog light and i manage to modified the other side so both rear fog light would work...i wouldnt recond. it cause its will blind the drivers behind you.
