Is there anyway to reset the check engine light without a reset tool?

 

not that i know of. You can reset oil and service reminders without a VAG tool, but i think you'll need one for a CEL.

Is there anywhere where I can get the codes pulled, and reseted for free?

 

AutoZone will read the codes for free.

 

y do u have to take the battery off for 30 min, i just pop the negative off for like 2 seconds and put it back on, the cel is gone

 

You can also try removing both cables and touching them together. This works on many vehicles.

 

How about fixing the problem!

Before you disconnect the battery for anything make sure you have the radio code.

 

Yea, go to Autozone and actually rent the obd2 scanner or give them a $20 to use it in their parking lot. I know in NYC/NJ they always gave me a hassle on resetting/erasing the codes after they read them. Some BS about a federal law prohibiting them to erase them, so I rent/use it and do it myself.

 

Well it is in fact against the law for them to erase the codes without fixing the problem. They got fined for doing it and thats why they make such a fuss.
