Default arrivingglowing turbo

i went out in the car tonight, came home later on and popped the bonnet to find a glowing turbo, I was accelarating rapidly most of the way home, Is this normal or not a good thing to do.

Most turbocharged cars turbos' will glow with enthusiastic driving over a long(ish) period, its fairly normal. I've seen a Vauxhall Astra (UK, Opel in Europe Holden in Australia) GSi turbo glowing brightly and lit a cigarette off it (and almost my hair and jacket I might add!) so I wouldn't worry about it too much

Gordon

PS Keep up the enthusiastic driving!

Just make sure that after you work the turbo like that you let it cool down before turning the car off. Let it idle for a few minutes after enthusiastic runs, or consider a turbo timer. Believe me, your turbo will last longer. And welcome to the site. I hope you find it both useful and entertaining. Check out the archives when you get a chance.

Dont shut it off when its glowing if you have an aftermarket turbo. if its the stock turbo just let it idle for a minute.

Is the turbo on the 1.8 water cooled, or do they just have an oil inlet/outlet on them?
