Audi A4 1.8T (2001) Start up noise
Hello all
I just joined the forum and i have to say i am amazed about the quality and quantity of information. I have a little question. When i start my car in the morning it makes a little squickie noise and revs up to 1200 rpm. After a minute or so the revs drop to 900 or something and no squicking. You can drive around stop and start the car with no noise. The noise comes up again when i stop the car for more than four hours. One of my friends who builds cars said that it is possible that the pump try to gets petrol to the engine. All the services are done in Audi dealerships. They could not investigate cause the car does not stay in there for more than 3 hours. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help

Please define squicking? Never heard that description before.
You mean gargling? If it is gargling and it comes from the rear it is your fuel pump and it is normal. Our tank is like an upside down U (to clear the rear drivetrain). It has a small secondary pump to move gas from one side to the side that has the primary fuel pump.

yeap...this is the word i was looking for gargling...although is not coming from the back...is coming from the front. Should i let the car drop from 1200 to 900rpm before i start moving?
Coming from the front? Perhaps you are hearing the Secondary Air Injection Pump. I have a 2000 too and it reacts when you first start the car. Basically its a heater that warms up the cat. It runs for about 60 seconds and then goes off (and may cut in for about 5 seconds the first time you slow down at a light). But that sounds more like a vacuum cleaner - not gargling. But it does keep the rpm at about 1100-1200 during the time it is on. You do not need to wait for it to stop before you start moving.
You may have 2 separate issues. The rpm increase is probably rel;ated to the Air Injection Pump and is not a problem. The gargling from the front? Next time you hear it try to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. Engine bay, undercarriage, etc and let me know.
It may also be your coolant system. You may have some air in your system and that can cause a squishing/gargling noise. Not leaking coolant are you? Water pump might be struggling.

after driving for about twenty minuets, i hear this noise that sounds like a duck being killed with a jack hammer. i think its comming from the front of my engine.. any suggestions?
