Audi A4 1.8T - Queston Regarding Turbo Behaviour
Hi
First time poster so be gentle
I picked up an A4 1.8T 163bhp a few weeks ago . So far so good but , I have noticed depending on driving situations, the car is either very lively or quite dead at times. I have been told that the turbo is a passive turbo, so it only kicks in at a certain RPM etc .
It seems the car is not as lively as it was when I first drove it , and I am wondering know is something wrong or if I have enabled some 'econonomy' driving mode or perhaps the turbo is just not functioning as it should .. or maybe I am just getting used to it .....
is there anything I can check without having to bring it to the garage and spend money on it ? If the turbo was not working or was intermittant, would any warning lights appear on dash for example ?
cheers
Martin

Your turbo only really kicks in above 3k rpms.
So, if you want power, you'll need to make sure your at 3k before you punch it, or it lags.
A chip and DV will do wonders for your horsepower.

The turbo doesnt always boost to its highest peak, unless you fully give it gas or are in a increased load situation. So if its intermitten, then what you are xperiecing load differences, if its all the time, you could have more problems.
you are using 91/93 correct? If not, that is it.

Since he's not chipped, I'd guess his doesnt boost untill at least 3k, unless he's a b6.
My engine is in columbus, my car is outside cincy and im south of dayton
If i can get the bastard back together sometime soon, i would be more than happy to meet up with you crazy columbus guys.

Hi
its a 2003 model . I am using *cringe* unleaded petrol. (95 octane? )
As far as I know , the car has not been chipped ..... if I intend on using 95 , should I get it chipped ?
thanks again
