if your all stock you really wont feal the turbo at all. the car is tuned so that you can't tell you have a turbo, it boost up smoothly and as soon as you get it, it goes away smoothly. And torque = boost isnt quite right, k03 spools at like 2200 at the earliest

This may be off the wall, but it's something I ran into with BMW enthusiasts when I was in the UK. 95 Octane in Europe is about 90 US. Most of Europe uses the RON (Research Octane Number) rating. We (the US) do an average of RON plus MON / 2. When I was in Scotland, Super was the 97-99 octane petrol and was preferred in sportier cars. BP and Shell also sold 102 RON at certain stations, usually on the main motorways. Also, your motor may be tuned differently as the emissions standards are totally different over there. I was sad to come home back into a US-spec 328i after being spoiled by the European levels. I'd check with a local dealership if there is one as to what fuel rating they recommend. HTH

Is it true that disconnecting the battery for 30mins or so will reset the ECU and possible take the car out of possible limp mode ?

yes disconnecting the batter and discharging the system will erase codes, and you should definately feel the turbo and hear the boost, 01 a4, its clear and distinct, not like a huge honda or mitsu turbo but with the windows down it sounds kinda whistly i guess to say, and you should get boost if you have a gauge in any gear around 2200, and even when it was stock you could feel turbo spool up, so i dunno what you guys are talking about, when shifting it should only take about 400 rpms to spool. thats what the k03 is designed for.

sooner. VVT helps with that.
I may be a nub, but "sooner" wasn't what I was looking for. What RPM range are we talking about?
well, I haven't driven a 1.8T B6, so I don't know first hand. but according to audi, B6's (well 2002s at least) develop their maximum torque of 166 ft/lbs at 1950 rpms. boost = torque. having said that though, AEB engines are supposed to generate their maximum torque (155 ft/lbs) at 1750 rpms. I question that though, my car is anything but torquey at 1750 rpms. [&:]

I think I'm more confused now than I was before I read this thread. [:@]
OMG, please no more posting in this thread. VVT is for emissions ONLY! That is all. Also you are trying to compare a ko3 and a ko3s which will spool the same, even a ko3 and ko4 will spool the same. The differnce isnt vvt, its small port vs large port heads and boost levels.

Just get a boost gauge and/or have the car scanned. The car stock isnt to impressive, when the boost pressure is increased changes that some

Well, I have never had a car with a Turbo so I am still getting the feel for it . Maybe I am just not driving the car correctly , to get the maximum benefit from the turbo .

I was driving home tonight from town , about 60mph in 5th gear (around 2500 rpms or so ) . If I floor it , it picks up speed , but nothing special . When I dropped her to 4th and floored it , it still didnt blow me away (again i am not used to a turbo so, maybe I am expecting to much) . I slowed her down to about 40mph and dropped to 3rd , acellerated hard and I hit 60mph pretty quickly allright ..

Sound about right ? I might drop her into the local Audi dealer and get them to take a look . Maybe she needs a tune up ? There is 70K on the clock.

thanks
Martin

stock audi's suck. 8 psi out of that tiny turbo ain't gona do much. so even when you downshift it shouldn't accelerate all that fast. 3rd gear seems to be the strongest gear (at least in mine) so that why you pulled from 40-60 faster than you did from 60-80. you just gotta face reality, your in a 3000+ lb car pushing a little over 100 hp to the wheels. get a chip, it will be a whole new car

and have you done your timing belt yet? if not, get it done asap
