Default Is an audi a4 for me?

Whats up audi people. Im a regular over at bimmerforums.com and am having lots of problems keeping my 95 325i running right. I've been interested in the a4 for a couple years now- i love that euro look on 18/19's! The question is how reliable are these cars and should i go for the v6 or the 1.8t? Are there any turbo kits existing for the v6? How reliable would a 1.8t be when pushing 260hp? All im looking for is a car that looks clean and has a little bit of speed and yet is reliable.... is an a4 for me?

I found a 1.8t 5spd with 96000 miles on it for 8000- hows this sound?

Ive got a 2001 a4 with a 2.8L. Its a 5 spd and a Quattro. I love my car but its not modification friendly as far as performance goes. Pretty much a chip and exhaust is all thats out. They also have a supercharger for 5k. If you plan on doing mild modifications then its a great car, but if you wanna go fast for the money your better off buying a 1.8T.

IMO the M3 and A4 are going to be about the same, although it sounds like you've had more problems than average with your M3. But in general, I'd assume that the frequency for maintenance should be about the same as an average stock M3. The A4 also has higher parts costs which is similar to the M3 as well.

The 2.8 (98 and up, 30 valve) has a supercharger kit for around $4.5-5k, bringing HP up to around 290 flywheel. No real turbo kit to speak of for the 2.8. The 1.8 has turbo kits that start off around $1.8k and go up according to HP needs. Sorry I'm not good with the actual turbo/HP ratio, so I cannot recommend which one to go with. These engines are strong, but maintenance needs to be a high priority. You really do get as much as you put into it with these cars.

As for reliability with 260hp, the 2.8 guys with the supercharger (G2) have had very little complaints, and I think most 1.8 guys will tell you that 260hp will be fine with proper maintenance, but it obviously won't be as reliable as if you kept it stock.

dude either keep your car and throw in a turbo for 4-5k and its fast as *****. i had one pass me on the express way and it was amazing. or buy a car just like yours in the 2.8 liter engine and same thing. but if you want a more reliable car for (winter?) or just all around i would get a 1.8t those engines are bullet proof as you can tell b/c audi kept them around for 9 years. good luck

if i could keep my car i would. the v6 in the e36 style bmw's has a top end that is to die for. And it sounds incredible as well. My car has 155000 miles on it tho and ive spent 2500+ in the past year and now it runs perfect but i have a horrible starter problem that nobody can seem to figure out.... The brand new starter that i just spent $500 on fires sometimes and doesnt other times.... and then the car has to be push started.... which is no good.
