That's a DKW Munga, not an Audi. The rings are either photoshoped on or added after the fact.

I know a kid with one of those Quattro sport coupes with the rings on the side and everything. That is a sweet car.

During the first war Audi was forced to produce vehicles for the war effort, and then after the war the recession was also a tremendous problem for the company. Therefore the founder August Horch left the management in 1920. The company managed to get through the hard times from 1927 to 1930, but in 1931 the management recognized that only a union with other vehicle manufacturer could keep Audi alive. At that time the AUTO UNION was founded, the members were DKW, HORCH, WANDERER and AUDI. The new companies insignia to show the union of the four companies was the now familiar 4 rings , which are still used by Audi today.

well, yes - you just solidified Jestnomen's point. This is a DKW vehicle, not an Audi. Audi retained the 4 rings of Auto Union, but it was the DKW section of Auto Union that produced the Munga. The rings on this particular car do not stand for Audi, they stand for Auto Union. The munga was produced by Auto Union up until 1965.

When VW acquired Auto Union it stopped production of the DKW Munga and then brought the Audi name to the forefront. It replaced the Munga with the Iltis. Audi never produced a Munga.
