Default audi research - need expert advice

hello guys and girls..

i'm new to the forum and seeking experienced advice and opinions. i've been researching the a4 1.8t (manual transmission) for quite a while now and i'm getting serious about purchasing a used 2002-2006 model. i'm on a budget, so i'm looking to spend around $10k-14k which would mean anywhere around the 50k-90k mileage. i would like to know about the lifetime and performance of this car after 50k miles. what recalls have there been, if any? also, what are the aesthetic and performance differences between the 2002-2006 models?

any input would be appreciated! thanks in advance.

2002 through 2005 is a B6 model A4. 2006 and on to currentstarted with B7 and front/rear are different in addition to engine and brakes.
Back to the B6 (this is a broad overview as details would take a whole page):
*Stock is a 4X4 but prolly more of what you'll find in your price range
*Sport model adds beefier suspension and wheel upgrades, and 2002 model year of that sat lower than 2003-2005.
*Ultrasport adds aesthetic touches including sweet body styling on to sport model.
*At slightly more than 50K, you need to make sure timing belt is done. Either make sure it was done or plan on adding to your cost to get it done.
*Performance stock is blah. Good gas mileage but not the fast pig in the pen.
*>2006 and B7 models came with 2.0L turbo and it has better performace, but you are not finding that model year in your price range.
*Coilpacks and fuel pumps fail. Be prepared.
Yada yada yada, blah blah blah. I could go on all day. I'm sure many will add to it.

what would be a good estimate for a tuneup for an average b6 model over 60k if we knew the owner took good care of the vehicle?

That car at 50k is just getting broken in. Timing belt on that one not dueuntil 100k or more.

If well taken care of they are very reliable, and will last till at least 200k and beyond.

Go for it, make sure you get quattro, and manual tranny or you'll forever be missing out on what audi is all about.
