Default Audi v. BMW

My mother and step-father have driven BMW's for the past 15 years. I have driven a new 330i, and X5 4.4, 2001 540i, and a Z3, and I did not notice a huge difference between those cars and the Audi's I have driven. I have driven a 2002 S4 chipped, and it felt awsome in terms of handling. I wanted to know why people still consider BMW to be the ultimate driving machine? What are the front end differences that make BMW's what they are? My A4 feels tight and handles like a dream, so I am confused if these are subjective opinions, or if there is an actual mechanical rationale behind BMW's slogan.

Balance, perfectly weighted steering (b4 the crappy assisted stuff they just introduced), and road feedback to the driver through the connection points. The rest is pretty damn close.

BMW's ugly a$$ interior the I drive was rated the most compicated to use out of all the systems and outdated exterior and not top mention 99.5% of the a$$holes that drive them I guess you could say they are a nice car

I like them both but i see more bmw's on the road which gives it less appeal in my eyes especially when i see some 15 year old kid driving one. None the less there quality cars and both perform.

While it is subjective as any "experience" is, I find it to be very untrue these days. All of the new-gen BMWs have lost the edge, the visceral feel that made it such an experience before. They used to be unique, for better or worse, but at least you could tell it was a BMW. Now they just all feel like their Mercedes counterparts. Disconnected, floaty, and overly nannied by electronics. They're putting too much emphasis on their new whiz-bang technology, and not enough thought into the driver interface. The amazing balance of before is gone and replaced with Zee CHermanz version of Big Brother. If you want go go fast in a new BMW you have to spend so much time changing all of the computer overlord's settings that it'll be dark before you're ready to go. Sure you'll save .1 of a second around a roadcourse with all of that cool stuff, but how often do you do that compared to how often you just want some thrills on the way home from the strip club (or where ever you happen to be).

I got to drive a second E60 M5 over the weekend, and I don't care how much faster it is than mine, when driven back to back, mine is just loads more fun.

I went to the UK launch of the 3 series at Rockingham race track. I thought that the 3 series was nothing to look at
unless you spec up the wheels to 18" minimum. They drove well but nothing special,I couldnt say i could really tell it was rear wheel drive but we were not allowed to disengage traction control in case we hurt ourselves. With traction on no one could get the back end out even in 330 models so i suppose it does its job but i didnt think WOW.Had more fun in 1.8t on way there.
Interior was pretty ordinary, with the most annoying f**king indicators i have come across

We also drove the X5 on a offroad track, now that was f**king fun,we had road tyres on only and it was deep mud everywhere, but it was very impressive. We also went up and down 30-40 muddy banks no probs, only one i was taken with.

Well thats my 2 pence worth.[sm=gears.gif]

I mean this this flyyyyys...performance wise i havent driven anything like this and i have driven my friends SL500 and i still would take my car over it any day, but not to put down Audis or anything cause i hope to buy one this weekend so yeah just my opinion on it cause i love both them both.
