Avon Tires pretty bad from Tirerack
I purchased the 235/45WR-17 Avon Tech M550 A/S in Dec 2005. Here is the old thread https://www.audiforums.com/m_175255/.../tm.htm#552361
I think I might have driven around 20k miles and now the tires are totally flat (bold) and there is no grip at all. I called tirerack and they say there is no warranty on those tires but they can discount if I want to purchase a different brand with them.
Anyone got any advice what can be done at this point.
Thanks,
RCil

Obviously don't buy those tires?
I'd take their offer and get a new set of rubber, but don't sell yourself short. You get what you pay for, so spend some extra cheese and get a good set.

I've heard only good things about Avon tires... how hard do you drive the car?
That really sucks that they wore out that quickly, if it was normal driving.
And last time I told you to get 235/45/17's... I gave you bad advice there, too! 225/45/17 is stock size for the B5... 235/45/17 is for B6.

I do pretty normal driving and I don't think I drove more than 15k miles with these tires as my work place 15 miles rount trip.
Tirerack offered me a 25% discount on any brand I choose for the future purchase. Do you guys have any recommendations for the all seasons?
headshok2002, no problem you are a great help here. Do you want me to go with 225 or 235 now?
Thanks

What's your budget this time around? I owned the General Exclaim UHP for about 5000 miles and they seemed to be holding out okay, but it's hard to say obviously as they are still so new. I liked how quiet and comfortable they were... they felt soft if you tried to throw it through the corners, but for commuting they were awesome.
I'm afraid to make treadwear estimations on them, though... right now I've got Falken ZIEX 512's which for the 1000~ miles I've used them on my new wheels have been awesome. Tirerack doesn't sell them, though.
I recommended the P-nero M+S last time I think... Lots of people love them. Likely expensive though, even with your discount.
Just carefully read through the survey results, and note which tires excelled in the areas most important to you. For me, I care most about noise and treadwear.
