im in the market right now for a audi

i noticed most b5's have around 80-90k miles on it and i want to know the longer lasting engine ...
i know 1.8t is more a tuner car but im not really into tuning and all that...

1.8t all the v6'ers i know always have regretted not getting a 1.8t. You might not want to mod yours now but atleast down the road you'll have an option.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I'd still go with the 1.8T. It is just a much more fun car than the 2.8.

For 500 dollars you can chip it and have a better car. The 1.8 is not unreliable, it is just more complex.

Welcome,
I drive V6 and can say its very stable and reliable. as I heard around 1.8 is cool but has more problems.
V6 is less tunable and 1.8 is more tunable.
On V6 though you can put SC increasing power by 50% geting ~300HP
on 1.8 I think you will end up with the same cost maybe even more to get same numbers.

i have a 2.8l. I bought my car with 112,XXX miles on it...so I look at it this way. If it was a 1.8t, i'd be hesitant about chipping/screwing with the engine. Plus it happens to be my first car and I'm definetely looking for reliability. The v6 is no speed demon, but it's no slug either. It can move out pretty well, and once i learn the art of downshifting a little better i think I will be even more excited by it.

my 1.8t has 90,000 on it. No problems, but i maintan it very well. I did the timing belt on it less than 1,000 miles ago.

honestly, im looking to keep my a4 for as long as i can. even as i get older and might buy a new car, i dont see much reason to sell this one. i hope that it runs and lasts as long as it can..maybe 300-400k miles
