you woudl have to test it manually, or the good old way and blow fuses left and right till you get the right combo ahaha

i done this mod a while back, not from this write up tho.
you can see my mod in my sig below, are bakes are ON in my sig.
i have the 1996, amber indicator, the older style rear lights.

what i dont get is why you solderd the wires onto the board, why not splice into the wireing before the socket and connect a wire from the brake wire to the fog light wire?
also, you only need to do this on ONE light(on the older lights anyway) and both fog lights will come on with the brake lights.
thats what i did anyway.

ive blew 2 fuses while ive done this.
the first fuse i blew becuase i pushed the rear fog light switch/button in on the dash (DO NOT DO THIS!!!!), i blew fuse 42 (rear lights) which took out my rear lights, brakes felt soft and couldnt get out of park!!
i dont know why the second fuse blew yet, i was on my drive parked up, engine running, in park, foot on the brake for 5 or so minutes, looked up and the fuse had blown.
i have had this mod for about 3 weeks now and no other problems.

but just thought i would share my thoughts on this........never press the rear fog light button when you have done this mod! splice into the wires before the socket instead of soldering (the metal board strips arnt the easyest things to solder too). and you only need to do this mod to 1 rear light for both fogs to come on with the brake.

correct me if i am wrong but i was aware that the rear driver side fog light was for foggy/rainy conditions when you were in the right lane to alert faster drivers to pass on the left???? IMO having two rear fog lights would give the impression to most drivers that you were braking all the time???? Nice DIY though. but i wouldnt do it. it defeats the purpose of the rear fog light function??
no. your ment to use your front and back fog lights in anybad wheather, not just hard rain or fog.
if the whether is that bad that you have to have your fogs on then there shouldnt be people passing you at a higher speed, and you should not be promoting that on the road.
they are wanring lights, just like hazard lights. you use them to let other drivers know that you are there not to let them pass you, fog lights are brighter and cut through the harsh wheather better.
as for the driver only fog light, im not sure why they done that, but its defently not to allow other people to pass you. in other countries both rear fogs are used (England for example). many cars and trucks here in the US dont have any rear fog lights.

ummmm, no. not even close. the rear fogs ARE meant to make your car more visible to people passing you on the left, that's why you have ONE of them, and it's on the driver's side. remember, audi is german, and they drive faster in germany for the most part. inclement weather isn't going to stop a lot of people from passing, when was the last time you saw the passing lane completely empty just because it was raining or foggy?

you don't need to have your rear foglight on whenever you use your front fogs. read the damn owner's manual if you have one, it tells you exactly what the rear foglight is for.

oh, and they do not have two rear fogs in england either.

lol i should know, im from england.
the rear fogs are ment to make your car visable from behind, and thats it.
and i didnt say you need your rear fogs on when the fronts are on, the frontscome on automaticaly when the rear ones are put on, and thats what i ment.i drive with my front fogs on when ever i have my head lights on, which is the majority of the time, their pointed slightly down and in.
and when i said passing at higher speeds, i mean higher speeds, as in lets say 20 or 30+mph, either your going way too slow on an interstate or their being complet idiots andoblivious.
plus this "left passing lane" isnt exactly a passing lane here in the us. people dont know how to work the lanes here, they do 70mph in a 80 zone in the left lane then other people have to pass them on the right (under-taking), yea that leftrear fog light, for when people pass you on the left, was a superb idea for the us

funny, I'm also from england and I've never ever seen an audi in england (or anywhere for that matter) that has 2 rear foglights as a factory standard.

dude, all you replied to my statement was "I should know, I'm from england". going by that, you're refuting what I said, and using the fact that you're english as supposed "proof" that you're right. you specifically said "in other countries both rear fogs are used (England for example)." this being an AUDI forum, I took that to mean that you were referring to AUDI vehicles. maybe I shouldn't have assumed that, but whatever.
