yeah, after i driving that, i'm thinking about going that route. they are crazy fast, and i'm sure it would be a lot cheaper than getting that much out of an audi. it will never be an audi, but it sure would be fun. i'll get my nice car in a couple years or something. i don't know, i'm gonna keep looking at both and see what I can come up with.

How are B6s nicer to drive? They look much heavier.

Wouldn't the S4 have nicer suspension geometry too?

The b6 frame is %35 more rigid, and you can tell when your driving it. My b6 handles much better than my b5 did. Not to mention the interior is much nicer.

enenen....I was in the EXACT same situation back in July. I was looking at a 2001 or 2002 S4 or 02-04 A4, but a 3.0 and not a 1.8T. I just realized I wanted something really fun to drive, but wanted the best reliability as possible. That's why I went with the NA 3.0. I like both bodystyles. Yes the S4 is faster..my buddy has a '01.5 S4..we haven't raced yet, but we probably will just to see how much diff. there is. We agree mine handles A LITTLE bit better, but mainly cuz of the wider tires. I didn't know the frame was 35% stiffer..that's cool.

How old are you? If you're like 18 or 20, the Talon makes sense, then when you hit mid 20's go with a little more luxury/fast car like the 1.8T or 2.8Bi Turbo S4....good luck!

How much power are people getting out of A4s? I drove a 400AWHP 92 Eagle Talon yesterday... now i want something real fast. Haha
It can be done... but you'd need to build your motor, and 400awhp isn't going to be as fast in an a4 as it would in a talon... 500+ lb weight difference. But yeah... getting close to 300whp can be done using the GT2871R turbo kit and a few supporting mods (FMIC and exhaust)... so yeah... 300awhp would be plenty enough for me

On the DSM note... a friend of a friend drives a 92 TSi AWD that puts down 576hp to the ground... 2.5L Evo motor or something like that? I don't know... it's crazy fast though.

its not that big a difference with DSMs. 2g awd wieghs in at ~3300lbs 1g weighs in at ~3100-3200lbs. I would say he may have a 2.4l stroked 4b63 block or a 2.4l 4g64 block out of the 2g spyder convertable. Its a 141hp siohc non turbo block butit bolts up to the 4g63 head and is cast iron and will hold boost very well. Swaping in evo motors into dsms isnt smart cause everything is backwards and flows completly opposite. BUt a stroked DSM is a torque beats and I plan on getting a 95 talon soon and stroking a 6 bolt with a 2g head 70mm TB sheet metal mani, DNP manifold and a huge snail(dunno yet) and a shep tranny. Im hoping for 400-500awhp ...damn I can dream stuff up cant i

Yeah, I'm 19. I got a damn good job making some pretty decent money, and my other car is done for, so I am ready to get something new. I'm thinking a should wait for my nicer car a couple years down the road. I don't want to get in over my head with an Audi, which is more expensive than a DSM, more expensive to mod, and more expenseve to maintain. I could probably handle it, but I'd rather save some money up and buy a house first. I could certainly get either the B5 S4 or the B6 A4 and keep it stock, but what fun is that? I might just go with the DSM for now, and then keep it is my toy once I get something a little nicer...Just thinking out loud, lol...

Thanks for the help guys, and keep adding to it, it's interesting for a new guy like me to read about something new.

Im sure a chipped a4 would suit your needs for a daily driver with performance unless you like to race or street race. If you go the dsm route modding will cheaper and the car will go faster for cheaper. But like said the Audi will have more luxary, this is coming from me a guy who owned DSMs for 4 years and now owns an audi. If your big into racing go DSM if you just want an awsome spirited drive with space for 5 and a trunk that can haul alot go audi. Its that simple. If you go the DSM route I can help you out with performance stuff and upgrade paths. Let me know

b5 s4 has my vote, and i think its more common for the turbos to go after 100k but i guess it depends on how it has been driven
