Default b5 stereo speakers

I just don't get it. We have 4" components up front. But when I search for speakers to fit my car it says 5.25". And 4" speakers are hard to come by. WTF?[&:]

i just did mine, the stock speakers in the front doors(B5) are indeed 4". You can indeed upgrade them to 5.25 as long as the magnet at the back on the speaker is not too big for it not too fit. Most will fit. the only problem with the install is that the audi stock speakers have a unique screw hole thats why if you want to install it properly to the get the best sound possible, you should buy speaker adapters in stores like crutchfield.

What type of speaker adapter are you refering to ddd?

I'm also looking to replace the front speakers of my 99 A4 and Crutchfield was my first choice but according to them, they don't have anything that will fit in the front doors.

For those of you who have replaced your front door speakers, which speakers did you use?

These are what I got from Crutchfield's: Alpine SPS-10C2 4" 2-way Car Speakers. They work great! However, the stock speakers have three mounting holes in a triangle versus the four in a square. So, you tilt the speakers 45 degrees and screw in the top hole and make some kind of brace or strap across the bottom to hold the speaker against the door. Not terribly hard. The inside of the doors lift off after you remove a couple of screws.

They fit nicely and sound great. And for $70 ain't gonna break the bank.

Those are 2 way speakers. So you didn't replace the stock tweeters?
