Hi all --

I bought a used B6 A4 1.8T a few months ago ('03 46k miles in excellent condition).

When I turn the car on I feel that the engine is a bit loud. After about 10 minutes the car quiets down drastically.

I've never owned a car with turbo and wasn't sure if this was normal characteristic of a turbo engine.

The car drives like a dream so I doubt there are any mechanical issues...

Any thoughts?

Mine kinda does this too. People have been suggesting checking the plugs / injectors for wear; or possibly a vacuum leak. Might just need a little tune-up!

just did a 40k full service so not sure if it's that...

 

Im not sure if B6's have it, but the secondary air pump can be noisy for a few mins on a cold start.

it is your dual mufflers on you exhaust system. b5's has single

 

very normal got 62k on the dial, and it sounds like a lawnmower for a few minutes, not a vacuum leak i just had my vac valve changed and it's still loud.

 

You think that your engine sounding like a lawn mower is normal???? Glad youre not my mechanic...
