correct me if im wrong but isn't back firing is a sign of misfire or you running rich? Maybe thats why you wasting gas, check your timing or spark plugs.

man wow all this talk about serious problems........sorry to burst your guy's bubbles but I don't think it's any of the above.
Mine does the EXACT same thing and it's stemming from an exhaust leak from my flex joint in front of my cats.
NO richness.... NO anything...... it's simply a standard exhaust occurance that happens in every car from excess gasoline pushed through the cylinder and into the exhaust system.... exept the problem with yours (and mine) is that it's being amplified from an open hole in your exaust, and not passing through your muffler. Kinda fun to scare the **** outa people with though :-)

Mine does it and I dont have any exhaust leaks. I cant shoot a flame bc i still have stock cat....but soon I wont so.....Oh and I have a resontaor too....and it still does it...just not so bad.

i have a high flow cat so i get not flame. but hopefully i will get side exhaust and shot a flame at the people next to me
