Bad Audi attitude to DIY and information flow
Just did the job, wow - the entire lamp unit was NOT happy to leave the car - a LOT of pressure had to be applied and eventually it flew off seperating itself from the lamp holder! If I had not read how to do it, I wouldn't have dared use that much force - or known exactly which way to pull! Anyway, now sorted!
Now I just have to work out how to un jam the beverage holder (fortunately that is well covered in the section on interior trim!).
I noticed that the Bentley manual does not cover Diesel engined models - and having looked at the USA Audi site I see there ARE NO Diesel models sold by Audi in USA! Why is that?
I have the 1.9 tdi 130 bhp model - and it goes like stink and does 50mpg overall average! There is very small market in Europe for the large gas engined models and diesel models are dominating sales. The VAG 1.9 (now 2.0) engine is regarded as the best in the market and is used in the VW Golf & Passat, Skoda and Seat ranges - it is also widely used in the A6 too.

mlunch, I don't think you are an idiot first off...
Why would you think Audi would give you information on how to fix your car? Servicing them is the bread and butter for a lot of dealers. It would serve Audi no good in telling you any information what so ever. Moreover if they provided you information and you hurt yourself you could come back and say "well Audi told me to do such and such and I was hurt in the process". The bently manuals are the way to go though.

Hmmm, may be more difficult for european. Bently is US based and publishes the manuals both CD and paper for Audi of America. I'm unsure if they cover european models. Still, the remainder of the mechanicals should be the same, although, Rt and Lt would be reversed for the UK.
If there aren't screws , there are little buttons that just need to be pulled off with a bit of force. Don't be afraid to tug a bit. I don't know what they are called, but mine were just little buttons on the liner that needed a tug ot two. I think there were 3 of em. Then you just remove the lightbulb housing which contains all the bulbs and remove the busted one!!. not very tough. Just do it!
hmmm... was very tense in these threads, no?
nobody should have to stress so much over changing a blub,
so boo audi for that... but sh|+, I don't blame them...
I'm just glad i have a usdm '96a4..
didn't need anything to replace bulbs, headlight housings, taillights... ^^
