Default bad noises help!!!! 2.8 Quatro

i recently was driving my 96 2.8 down to la and after i had arrived i pulled up to the curb and left my car idling, then suddenly after approx. 30 secs of sitting there, my car died... i started my car again, and it immediatly died... i tried once again and it started and started makeing grinding noises, then it died again... i looked out my window and smelt an awefull very expensive smell, and saw a small amount of smoke come from under the hood... i didnt try to start it any more, but i looked under the hood, checked to make sure there was oil in it, there was... does anyone know what it could be???

How many miles on it? Has the timing belt ever been replaced?

it has 130, belt looks like it needs to be replaced after i looked closer at it...
and expensive smell, it slightly like burning audi motor material, with a little hint of a stack of 100 dollar bills on a fire...

If your timing belt busted it could be a stack of $1000 bills on fire.

ya it definately sounds like a busted timing belt lol, you shouldnt have kept trying to start it because everytime you did the valves got bent more and more.

engine stalled and it started but ran rough ( if the timing belt went you would not have got that far ) I suspect crank/cam sensor and check the timing belt

It’s a 96 so even if the tbelt broke the valves would be fine. 12v engines FTW!
