Default Battery

well since i havent had my license these past 4 months my car has been sitting in my garage, and i crank it up every couple of days and take it for a spin around the neighborhood, but this past sunday i pulled it out of my garage to sit in front of the house while i was doing some yard work, and about an hour later i wanted to put it back in the garage but it would not start, so i got the jumping cables and i cranked it up off my moms car. I was just wondering how could the battery of died in that time , is it because i'm not driving it or the battery just died cause it was it's time??
