i finally got my 99 a4!!! and i luv it

just one thing that bugs the hell out of me

then head unit (tape deck) 9" long.!!!

i bought a nice alpine headunit and of course at bestbuy they install it for free right..

no!

the guy told me they cant touch it because the cars stereo system is amplified....
and that u need to re-wire the whole car???

is that bs?

i heard of a euro-U.S. wire adapter that would work is that bs?

please let me know b4 i get a very expensive thing done!

 

The system is amplified and there is an amplifier adapter. I'm not into stereo stuff and not really sure exactly what it's called. Try Tweeter or a place that doesn't sell appliances.

im pretty sure it depends on what stereo system you have. theres a few defferent ones- audi symphony I, audi symphony II, and the bose system. there maybe another one but im not sure. i have the symphony II in my 01 and i took it to tweeter and they actually hard wired it for me for like $50. but i know if you have the bose system you do have to have all the speakers rewired.

 

Theres a few things you need to get to make an aftermarket radio work in an audi: All this can be found on ebay

Radio Removal tool ebay # 320053658496
Audi Dash Kit something like this ebay # 320051947396
Metra harness #: 70-1787 (VW/Audi Amplified Harness)
Metra Antenna adapter #: 40-VW53 (amplified antenna adapter)

This way you dont have to hardwire anything and you can always convert back to stock.

 

also, the labor is free, parts do cost, dash kit, wiring harness, antena harnes

i would say, that doing stereo, specially a head unit it the easiest thing you can do

first pull out old unit, second, match wires(color coded), third crimp on/solder wire, no electrical tape, or and i have seen it, dont just twist them together and think you are good, third plug antena into adapter, if needed, never done an audi and on the vw's i've done not needed, fourth plug harness into stereo and turn on key to make sure everything lights up and works properly, fifth pull out tabs with a flat head screw driver to make it harder for thieves, lastly if everything works reinstall

and some units come with a small built in amp and can run even an amped unit, my old cabrio was "amped" and i put in a few headunits, bought a clarion pro no problem, pioneer, and 2 sony's same model cause fool decided to steal it

 

JoD's have them you have to buy the one for the 2000 it will work with the 99 i had one in my old a4 its really easy to install, if you cant find one, i can go to the one near me and pick it up for you and ship it out if you have a paypal account let me know, try to find one first im sure you will be able to..

I had an alpine cda-9895 i think thats what it was

 

mine is stock right now. I just ordered all that off ebay.

But i got a Pioneer P880prs....its pretty baller i hear lol.
