Best Damn Cup Holder for A4 -- courtesy WAL MART!
I have been looking for a cup holder for my A4 as a substitute for that hideous thing mounted above the factory radio. After tooling around online, I found a few options in the $50-75 range. but they both were attached to the carpeted side of the center console, right were my feet go. Not an ideal location.
So today I venture out to Wal-Mart, hoping to find something I can rig up just to get me by. Glancing around at my A4 cockpit, there was precious little unused surface area where a cup holder could go.
Well, instead of the usual clamp-on cupholder I expected to see in the automotive aisle, I came across a nifty little bugger. Let me say I was extremely skeptical about what I saw initially. At the very best, this thing screamed "white trash" at me from the store shelf. But as cheap as it was, I decided to give it a try. I SURE AM GLAD I DID!!!
Damn, this thing is just about the best thing for A4 owners since even before sliced bread. Drum rollll please.......and here's your photo:
Here's how this thing works -- no screws, no velcro, no tools required. The thing simply has a long wedge that gently slides down between your console and passenger seat. You will have to visit the store to see it. The wedge is what I was really skeptical about in the store, but it works great. No chance of harming the seat or the trim, and yet it holds solid. Better yet, the cup portion comes down and rests neatly on top of that tiny, useless little pocket by the brake lever. It has its own center pocket (see pic) that is far more generous. Best use of that space imaginable.
As pictured, I have the thing fairly far back, out of the way of the shifter. With the armrest down, you only have access to one cup, but so what?? That's all you have with that flimsy POS above the radio. You can always life the arm and get at both cups.
Oh yeah, and it does NOT interfere with the passenger either! So you can escort your hot little arm candy to the local Starbucks and get you both a nice latte.
Wal-Mart....what will their Chinese suppliers think of next? :P

Excellent point.
fortunately, you can remove it by simply sliding it out from between the seats. throw it in the trunk when your buds wanna carpool. pop it back in on long road trips.

Don't you have 2 factory cup holders right next to the ones you added? My 99.5 has them right there under the arm rest and with a soda can in the holder the arm rest still goes all the way down...

my cuphlder above my frigigng radio broke cuz friends rammed their asses into it and ripped it off so i basically got a new panel and sealed it up into an extra storage thing (it folds down and turns into a tray u can stash receipts and **** in - i am going to use it for my radar :P or ipod)
i took out the center armrest drink holder cuz over bumps ppl have spilled **** in there and it got sticky
lesosn of the day: DON'T drink in the car unless its water - in which case drop it on the floor

The b6's don't have that cupholder. Instead they put them in the armrest. So stupid.
