its not that dumb IMHO
the cupholder in teh dash is for driver - the one in armrest is for passenger ...
the extended cupholders are annoying cuz they spill easier (my dad had it on his old bmw and his nissan)

Don't you have 2 factory cup holders right next to the ones you added? My 99.5 has them right there under the arm rest and with a soda can in the holder the arm rest still goes all the way down...

Well IMO its stupid because you can't exactly use an armrest when there's a cup stickin out of it.

The way i figure it is - if there's a cup there - keep 2 hands on the wheel like ur supposed to 
b/c the passenger on teh side is distracting u with their convo
all in all - don't drink in ur call and life will be good

OK I got one the day after I read your post. GOOD CALL. Newbie here and have had my '03 1.8t for about 2 weeks now and yes the biggest complaint is the cup holder situation. This one is a good contender however Im a coffee drinker and the holder is a little wide for the large starbucks and seems like it may tip over. I may need to mod the mod
