I had a MKIV GTI VR6 before buying my A4, and the best mod was a cold air intake (CAI). On the VR6, it dyno'd for about an 8 hp gain and torque was pretty constant. Car pulled noticeably better from 5000-6500 rpm.

Please note the operative words being "Cold Air"; the one in the photo you show is a short ram without a heatshield and I bet that you will lose power when the ambient air temp exceeds 65 F. The stock intake would likely be better at delivering cool air to the engine than that one.

I can't recommend any particular makes, but I can strongly recommend that you find a true CAI or a short ram with a slick heatshield set-up. Otherwise, IMHO, you're wasting your hard-earned money.

Also, will the electric fan on SPP's website work with the 2.8? if not, should i stick with EVOM's?

a cold air intake would defenatly be the way to go but a short ram intake would still be better than the sock intake, you still will feel a difference compared to stock with a short ram

Looks like the LLtek heatshield would work with the eBay intake. If you can just order the shield from LLtek, you'd save a ton of cash.
