i am planing on buying a 99 a4 1.8t (AT) quattro that had the timing belt break when the guy was going 50MPH so i dont think there will be any saving the old engine so i was wondering if i can put a 98 VW passat 1.8t (MT) engine into it for an even easy swap?

cranks are differnt. so it wont work. You can swap heads and resurface the pistons or rebuild the head (swap bent valves) and smooth or replace pistons.

 

Why not look for another Audi with no problem?

 

ok thank you. and the reason im not going to buy a different audi is becuase i would prefer to spend 2k and my mechanical abuilities in stead of paying 5-7k

 

rebuild the cylinder head chances are only a couple of valves are bent but look before you stride

 

That or just buy a performance cylinder head fromQED or something.

They are only $2-5k (plus you have to send in yours) and a new valve is about $15.

 

But where is the fun in that? If i get a 1.8T and it snapped the belt, i would be whipping out my capital one card and going to the qed website. [8D]

 

Been there, done that at qedpower....LOL.

But i would just slap on a aeb head above anything else. While it was off add in some cams and new exhaust valves.
