Default Blown motor A4 non-quattro, rebuilding

Friends car, 2003, he ran it with the oil light on or flashing, the dealer diagnosed a blown motor, they wanted $6000 to fix but I told him I would help him out and rebuild it, any precautions or experience from rebuiding this motor

its $1400 for parts, plus $130 for a new oil pump, the motor still turns over but I don't know what kind of damage it has, it was towed to me and I was asked to figure it out and fix it, I've done a motor on an A6 and it was straight forward, what I'm worried about are the piston rings, what material are they made of? Any other precautions, let me know

if the oil pump is what caused it then audi may be responsible. I think there's a warranty on them or something. you should ask around.

the car has 69k miles, unfortunately my friend didn't do full maintenance so their is no warranty according to the dealer where the car was diagnosed

even tho it is a compleatly dif engine i just finished building up a chevy 350 the basics still apply.

get the block cleened form an engine shop ( machine shop)
while waiting buy and reed the bently manual for your engine
talk wiyh the engine shop guy they will direct you to the parts you need to get (little stuff you forget about)
take your time make sure everything is done right

Got it out, weird design on the CVT transmission, the flywheel almost looks like a manual trans
