Hi, i am currently 20 y/o and i have a 99.5 1.8t. i am sorry to say it is an automatic because thats what my parents bought for me when i first started driving. I need more HP and i have no clue what to do... i am really not sure if it is worth getting my car to (around) 300hp or more. some people have said the tranny wont hold, other people have said if i do it properly, i should have no problems.

I do however know what i want to get if the car can handle it. In order: chip, catback, evo intake, turbo upgrade (not sure between k04 or gt yet) fmic/injectors... and the rest. suspension upgrade and big break upgrade will come later.

I know it would make things less complicated if i just got a 5speed, but it does not seem like it would be an option any time soon. Am i better off waiting until i get a new car, or do you guys suggest i go ahead and put whatever i can into this car even tho it is an auto.

P.S. my warrenty is over, so i can do whatever. Yes i know that performance wise a manual would be faster also.... but the question is, is it doable with an auto?

It's "doable" but a K04, chip, exhaust, intake, and injectors aren't going to get you 300hp. At most I'd say 250hp. You could go with APR's stage 3 setup. I think this will give you around 280hp for around $5,000. Is your car "drive by wire"? If not, your tuning options aren't as great. I'd sell the car and take that extra $5,000, put it in something else and have a much faster car.

 

selling the car is not an option. I would do whatever it takes to get it to around 300hp. i need some speed because right now the car is just too friggin slow for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

Im in the same boat as you with the auto. That what my rents got me when I first started driving. I hadnt drivin a manual at the time.
I have an 03 A4 with APR chip. If you want more boost , start with a chip. Either GIAC or APR. Get the Stage 1+ .
This will be enough boost to make you happy for a while. Then take it from there.

 

im runnin the k04 plus some supporting mods on my 99.5 tiptron, car has 108k still strong. i would recomend getting a trans flush, it made a world of difference on my ride

 

300 is way past what the transmission will hold.

 

300hp i dont think so man maybe but wont last long
dont expect much from an automatic

 

if you are willing to open the pockets these folks will get your zf tiptron in shape to hold 400 hp/tq
