alright so i finally got my boost gauge installed today. at idle its at 20-21 Hg which is normal. The funny thing is when i stomp it in first gear the psi will not even hardly boost above 0, but then when i drop it into second it will spike at 15-16 psi and then taper off. third through fifth gear will spike 17-18 and hold around 16 psi. I'm just very curious as to why i get no boost in first gear, and it doesn't register as much in second gear as all the others. I have checked for leaks, and the car feels as powerful as ever so I don't know if this is normal or not. I ran my vacum hose with the t- fitting right off the manifold like awe says too, so I'm just not sure what the hell is going on haha... basically what I'm asking is what do you guys think the problem is, or is this just normal

that is normal. But you should see some boost in 1st. There just isnt the same amount of load in the first couple gears so 1-2 gearsso boost isgoing to be lower than 3-5/6 gears.

Put it this way, if someone gave you a differnt one, they would be wrong, hows that? No matter what turbo you run, your not going to make full boost in first and ofter secondunless you run very little boost, like 5psi.

 

Think about engine load. Rev the engine up in neutral and you wont get hardly any boost. In first gear you have a huge mechanical advantage and a relatively light load on the engine.

 

ya thast kinda weard beucase i still fully boost in 1 hitting 16psi
