Default Bose > Audi Symphony

My 98 audi had bose and I loved the sound. My new 01 a4 doesnt have bose, it has the audi symphony and I can REALLY tell the difference--it sucks.

My question is, without replacing the system because I don't have the money to do that, what would be the best way to getting the sound quality a little better? I was thinking about an amp, but what wattage should I look for that would be the best for a small amount of money to spend.

Thanks

get a 300w 4-channel amp and run 75W to each speaker.

Pardon me for the n00b question, but when it comes to car stereos I don't know a thing. With a 300w amp, doesn't it make sense that you can run 240 or more watts to each speaker? Or can the total not exceed 300w?

i did this to mine as well.. alpine amp .. waaaay better sound now!! i just need to hook in the sub amp and sub and then it will be perfect!!.. the stock speakers don't do too well with the low frequencies..

i love the factory look doing it this way!..

If you have limited funds, the first thing I would upgrade is the speakers.

No don't upgrade the speakers... symphony speakers sound great amplified, trust me. Get the amp first, like a JL 300/4 or something along those lines, and if you have money down the road, then upgrade your front door speakers, with a nice set of 5.25" components. Don't worry about your rear fill, the symphony speakers are really quite good, if they haven't been blown.

I am giving my rear speakers (which are symphony) 75W RMS right now, and my front bose speakers are getting 150W RMS. Still waiting on my focal polykevlars! [:@]

i know when i did my system i first put in my head unit ... and i could tell a HUGE difference just after a headunit ... so i would keep that in mind ... b/c the amp will only push the quality that the headunit its putting out ....

well yes, the headunit would eventually be the bottleneck in your system in terms of SQ... but adding a bigger amp will make a much bigger difference than adding a aftermarket HU.
