Let me know how you like it because if my tranny ever goes which I hope it doesn't I might look into this swap.

i take it the gearing is a bit longer? so the rpm's at 80mph drop compared to the 1.8t tranny?
correct. he'll lose a small amount of low-end acceleration, but he'll gain a pile of top end, that car will have lonnnnnng legs now. someone posted a chart showing the speed difference between the two trannies at equal rpms. I'll have a look for it and paste it here if I find it.

I wonder what the differences in 1/4 mile timeslips would be.

^^ good question. probably slower with the 2.8 trans, although having longer gears may eliminate the need for that 3rd shift, into 4th gear. I don't know if you'd even have to shift into 4th gear in a 1/4 mile with a 1.8T tranny though, cause I've never raced my A4.

I think you will need at least 4th maybe 5th if you are racing a stock A4 because shifting comes a little earlier than redline due to the small ko3 losing air flow at higher rpm's. I will let you know in the beginning of May when I take my car to the track.

nah, there's no way you'd need 5th gear unless you've got a BT setup I don't think. even with a few standard mods like exhaust, chip, and N75, our cars are only in the high 14's to low 15's anyway. that's probably a 90-95mph 1/4 mile, if that. even shifting at say 5K, before the K03 runs out of steam, you wouldn't need to shift into 5th.

can the tranny on the 1.8T really go up to 164mph?...I always thought it would make it to like 140 and then top out....maybe it's the engine I'm thinking of?...

onemoremile made the graphs based on info he found on the net and specs from Audi. So they may be off. It also depends on tire size.
