Hey guys
So i got the 1997 A4 with 76K miles all maintanence done at 72K (new tires, control arms, water pump, timing belt..etc..) for $6500.
My budget was around 8K so after taxes etc. I have around 1000 to spend. I am waiting for the check to come through from my bank so should get the car this weekend or right after. It is navy blue with light grey leather interior.

The power locks on the car dont work and are kind of a pain since they hard to unlock and lock from inside due to being power locks.The central locking with the keys does not work either and when I sit in the car and hit the central lock button a kinda loud HISSING sound comes...sounds like the motor is trying to work...any idea what could be wrong?

I am thinking of just living with the manual locks for now and getting the following mods:

1) CHIP ~500 bucks (please recommend a good one!)
2) Pioneer in dash cd mp3 player (it only has tape right now) ~300 bucks
3) Ipod aux hookup to the pre wired cd changer port ~60 bucks? I cannot find one for a 1997.....
4) Exhaust - something around 500

My budget for mods is 1000 so thinking if I do 1,3,4 that might be good...

Are there any other mods you recommend apart from these? What do you guys think? Some companies for these mods would be great!!!

What chip? What exhaust? Can I get both for 1000 u think? I want an exhaust that is very deep...not farty and ricy if you know what i mean.....More louder on low end torque...thanks.

 

the lock problem is a vacuum leak as the locking operation is vacuum operated (have fun tracing this problem ) as for the mods start with a chip I personally recommend GIAC and get yourself a nice DV even if it the 710N this is good enough for a chipped car the just work your way through with a nice exhaust system then suspension upgrade

So no point trying to fix the locks? How much do you think someone would charge to find the vaccum leak or replace it?

So go for the GIAC chip...and which exhaust?

well you could try maybe it is just a cracked hose who knows

for the exhaust I am running a neuspeed and it is 2.5 all the way back has a nice sound to it not ricey at all

 

Dont get what a DV and 710N, you got sound clips of the exhaust?

o sorry a DV is a diverter valve you can get a aftermarket one or the 710N diverter valve is from the TT

 

How much do those cost? Can i install it on my own? and would you recommend they come after chipping and exhuast or in between?
What do they do?
