Default BRAKE PAD WARNING INDICATOR

The circle with brake shoes on the outside keeps appearing. It happens every 4 or 5 days. If I shut the engine off and restart, the indictor resets. I have 3/8" on the front pads and at least an 1/8" on th rear. Any suggestions.

umm, don't you think 1/8" is kind of worn down? Time for new pads.

Have the brake fluid checked. If the pads are worn it could need more brake fluid. sometimes it is just enough to trigger the sensor.

hmmm... a lack of brake fluid would cauze a huge increase in stopping distance. I dont think it would effect the brake pads. In fact it would actually make the pads last longer because they are not being pressed against the rotor as hard.

The only way you would have a increase of stopping distance is if you were missing a large amount of fluid. Well beyond the sensor level. The pads are still going to press the same against the rotors, you would just have to press the pedel harder to build enough pressure.

I have 72Kmi now. The dealer gave me new pads at 50Kmi.
Brake fluid is full. Chilton manual says rear minimum is 5/64".
If a sensor was faulty, how could I check it out?

There really isnt s "sensor" exactly. There is just a wire that runs through the pads and when they get worn down the conection is lost. I suppose you could pull off the connector and jumper the two leads together to see if the light extinguishes.

I would have to agree with Jared at the start of this thread (to answer the question at hand) 1/8 is kinda low, this is prolly what the light is all about.

I thought a conection was made when the pads are warn. I'll have my mechanic change the rear on Tuesday. Thanks
