Default brakes

i have a 98 a4 and i would just liek to know if they are equipt with a special braking system, are they power assisted? the reason i ask is because wehn i brake hard, before i come to a complete stop, i feel as if the car is braking, and then pulling. as if the pads are gripping then letting go slightly by themselves, is there someting wrong or am i jsut going crazy?

its called ABS, man. Are you living in the dark ages?
Yes they will feel like they are letting go and then braking, then letting go, all very quickly - a pulsing motion.

i know what abs is, my inquirt is different though! when i brake hard, tehy grab and hold tight,,,,,,no letting go, no pulling......when i slow down from fast speeds, right b4 i come to a complete stop, they pullas if they are continually pumping. abs should only kick in when im starting to lock.....in this case im not locking!

yes it is supposed to pulse becasue that keeps the tires from sliding do to locking up the brakes. Again its called ABS. Antilock Bracking System hence the anti lock/pulsing.

The ABS on the a4 is a bit jumpy, can act to soon, cleaning the wheel sensors can help, or just not trying to lock up all the time.
