Default Brakes have gone

I havent checked them yet but i know i need some new ones. What are teh good pads that everyone likes? I like the ceramics ones that will give me more "bite" and teh ones with "less dust" or dif. color dust. What specal tools will i need to do it myself? Caliper compresser?

I'm curious myself which pads to go with next. I recently changed mine but I just went with cheap pads from autozone because I'm broke. hb972.8q was right, all you need for the front calipers is a c-clamp. The piston simply compresses in without twisting. However, for the rear calipers you either need the speacial tool or, I used needle nosed pliers. I'm sure the tool would have been easier because you have to press in on the caliper while twisting which was difficuly to do with the pliers. If you don't already have one I recommend getting a Hayne's repair manual for your car. It'll tell you exactly how to change your pads. Good luck!

i have the manual. I will look at that tool. Atautocross where can i find those pads? Are ceramics worth the extra money? I am looking at the Hawk Performance pads that are ceramic (94.95 for a set of 4)

So i checked my pads and they actually look new and have plenty of pad left. I also checked the brake fluid and that was fine. So what shopuld i have checked. I know something is wrong becuase it was making this horrible sound when stopping. Yesterday i was in Laguna Beach and my friend lives up in the huge hills and when i was going down the steep *** hil they were making sounds that i have never heard before.

If you were doing lots of hard or long stops... they might have just gotten really hot. They can start to make some noise then...

no pulsation in the pedal when you brake? Lots of people warp their rotors, braking more aggressivly than stock brakes can handle.

Where is the noise coming from?

If the pads are good then there shouldn't be any grinding unless something got caught behind the pad (highly unlikely)

If you havent driven in a day or two (esp if you are in a damp climate) you may get some grinding the first time you use your brakes as the rotors will slightly rust.

Do you get noise without applying the brakes? Could be that one of the calipers is seized and not retracting.

I have been driving my car evryday day, except today b/c i didnt want to until i checked teh pads. There is sometimes a slight squeaking when driving at slow speeds. it may not be noticable at higher speeds since the wind noise may block teh sound. It is teh loudest when i am braking hard, instead of braking and downshifting like i would when i stop at a red light. it is most obvious whne i stop quick for a changing light or someone in front of me or soemthing like that.
