Buddy backed into my car
I have a few questions I'd like to throw at you guy. Basically, I was parked behind my friends truck and he backed up into my 2002 A4 and hit it with his trailer hitch. Looking at the car from the front, he hit the lower right side of the grill/hood, and the top portion of the bumper. He didn't hit it super hard, but enough to put a hole in the bumper and curl in the grill and a little bit of the hood. What's the best course of action on getting this fixed? Should I try to find used parts in salvage yard? Also, what are the implications for him if we turn it over to insurance? Any help on this would be much appreciated.
What would happen to my friend's insurance if we reported this to his insurance company? He'd have to pay a deductible, but would he now have an accident on his record and have higher insurance? I can't see the damage costing more than a $1,000.
If the cost to fix it is near $1000 i would have him claim it. Im sure he doesnt have a spare $1000 to hand over to you, at least willingly, so it would be best to claim it so he only pays his deductible. They may or may not raise his rates depending on his driving history and what company it is, but that may be the cost he has to pay for learning a lesson, even if it was a mistake.
the same thing happend to my car 2 nights ago....lol. I reccomend you get an estimate on what the price would be to fix it, and then ask him if he can pay you the money without letting his insurance kno, pending on how bad the damage is and what the cost will be to fix it..but like what he said^^^i dont think he will have 1000 to just hand over. I took my car to earl sheib yesterday and they said they could fix it for 356 out the door for a quater size gash to be fixed in my bumber... So i think yours will be alot more.... Sry for my poor english i just woke up
I appreciate the replies...we're going to claim the damage on the car. I looked at it more and it'll be at least a thousand dollars for the damage. It hit a small portion of the hood also where it drapes over with the grill. It's definitely not fun to have your buddy hit your car. I feel really bad for him having to pay a $500 deductible. Anyways, I had another question about getting the work done. Can you have them put aftermarket parts on the car with the money, or do they have to go with OEM?
no, they wont put aftermarket parts on the car. usually oem sometimes re-used parts(depending on the insurance companysorry to hear about your ride, its always awkward and never a good thing when a friend hits your car.
yes they will put on aftermarket parts but you have to buy them and then get reembursed to what the original bumper woul cost to fix.
my case front end damage new a4 bumper $425
new s4 bumper $550
i pay $125 forgot to add new grills, front bumper licenceplate holder, new squirty things covers, and more for paint since it is larger.....so + $200

Got the quote for the car. It's $2300 to replace the hood/grill, front bumper, and headlight. Apparently, they also have to blend the new paint job on the hood and bumper to match the front quarter panels. I thought that the paint wouldn't have faded yet with clear coat and all. Might as well paint the whole car a different color, or have them paint the lower portion of the car that is unpainted. Has anyone had that done?
