#1 its a 12v 2.8 so you will never be able to mod it. In 1998 they came out with a 30v engine. there is a $5k supercharger available for that engine. Is this a manual or automatic. 1998 transmissions were changed to tiptronic automatics. Make sure the timing belt has been done. Do not just believe them on this - you need receipts or some proof that it was done. If not factor that in to the price. If your very good with cars you can DIY for $300ish or pay a mechanic $800-$1200 to do it. Price: I would say, if the body is mint, with mileage $5,500-$6500

If the price is good, and you are looking for a reliable car and not wanting to mod it, go for it.Its a solid car and 60-70k is decent mileage, its not real fast, but its still a pretty nice ride.
If you want more power, get a 98 or newer v6, if you want to mod, get a 1.8T.
Also, quattro is a huge plus, if it has that.
Good service history and records of it are a MUST for these cars. If t-belt has not been done, thats going to need done asap, and also look out for loose steering or noise in the suspension, another common issue.

ask for service records, if they dont have them. Make them call Audi with the VIN. they will tell the owner if, where, when it was serviced. At least they did that for me. Hopefully, they'd do the same for you.
