Default Buying used a4--timing belt question!

I am looking at many used a4's right now. When should the timing belt be replaced in these cars?? How much does it cost to have it done on the 2.8 and the 1.8?? I am looking at a 2.8 with almost 90000 miles that has not had it done and I am assuming it would need it. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, it would definitely need it. By 60K miles you should start to think about having it done. By 75K you are taking the risk of destroying your engine. Have your water pump changed as well.

Normal cost is anywhere between $800 -$1200, depending on who you go to. There's quite a bit of labor time involved.
