Default CAM Adjustors on a '99 A4

Just got back from my local Audi dealer and they said that the reason for a slight oil leak I have and a "burnt rubber" smell that has come from the engine is my CAM adjustors. They quoted labor and parts at $1500 to have them replaced. If any of you have had work like this done does the price seem reasonable?

Too I've owned the car now since Sept. of '03 and in addition to this latest problemthe waterpump blew on it around 50,000 miles. It currently has 106K miles. Is it out of the ordinary that I have had these two problems up to this stage?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Water pump and T-belt are common problems. The stock water pump has a plastic impeller that just falls apart.

As far as the seal that seems out of hand. But i always opt to DIY.

1500 would be slightly high if the timing belt kit was also inclueded.

Not sure what they mean by cam adjusters. Do they mean the front cam seals? Labor and parts would be about 400 dollars, but if you are going to have them done, do them at the same time as the timing belt change. Extra cost would be about 50 dollars.

the rear cam adjusters have a half moon seal and flat gasket that do leak
