I have had an audi a4 for three weeks now, and haven't even had the chance to drive it as its been into three different garages including the audi dealership. The car has been diagnosed by all three garages including the dealership as requiring a new engine control module and immobilser box, I was quoted a whack by the dealership and then had it taken to another garage where they said they could fix it only telling me when I called them back that the audi dealership could only sort the car due to them having the proper computer equipment to recode the new parts to the car. They told me that even the keys all corresponde with the engine control module and immobiliser box and that this why I could only go to audi dealership to have the problem resolved, argghhhh.

Could anyone tell me if the audi dealer is the only garage that can repair this problem as I have been told or can I purchase an engine control module and immobilser box somewhere else cheaper and have it recoded myself, I live in Scotland but would welcome any help as I am at the end of my tether and getting ready to get rid of this nightmare car.

More details on your car always is helpful.. But to me, it sounds like you are getting taken for a ride in your own car. Did you happen to mention to the last 2 places you took it to that the 1st place told you you would need a new ecm/imob. box before them doing any sort of diagnostic work?? Just curious. The dealer is usually the last place you want to take your car. Usually the best thing to do is have your ecu scanned for any fault codes and explore all of the possibilites of what triggered them.. Reporting here, with the fault codes is the best thing you can do to get honest solutions and oppinions. Dealerships are catagorized as "stealerships" for a reason, especially Audi with their outrageous labor rates. If we cant help you, its best to get your second, and third oppinions from a non-dealer euro shop that specializes in Audi/VW, if there is such a thing in Scotland? Im sure there is.
