Default can foglights work alone?

anyone with b6 a4, can you turn on your foglights by itself instead of both the foglights and headlights together? I ask because when I first bought my car, I could have sworn I did this. Then after leaving my car at the dealership for a few days for certification, I picked it up and could no longer do it. So a week later, I brought it back to the dealership and they spent an hour trying to fix it. The tech comes out and say that you could only use the fogs with the headlights together. Hmmm...then how come it worked before?

with my B5 A4 I can turn the parking lights on... first position. Second position turns on the headlights. This way my instrument cluster is illuminated, the fogs are on and the headlights are off.

2002's were able to be programmed via a vag-com cable and a laptop. After that Audi disabled the feature from what I gather. A "vag" is a big computer/diagnostic machine the dealer hooks up to your car to do things such as resetting check engine lights. It also can program certain modules in your car. Along comes Ross-tech with their "vag-com" cable which allows you and me to buy it and have almost the same features as the big expensive dealer version.

Anyway back on topic... Are you positive you were able to run fogs without the headlights on?

The b5's cant be vagged.
The b6 you just have to switch the programing over to the canadian one...

In canada, the fogs are ALWAYS on... they act as the daytime running lights. The fogs turn off when you turn the headlights on... and then you can manually turn the fogs back on if you want to.

I tried switching to US programming, because I'd prefer to have NO lights on during the day... and at night I traditionally drive with both headlights and foglights on... so I'd prefer the US way. Quit complaining guys!

I'm positive. I remember looking through the manual to find out how to do it. So I tried it and bam, i got it. I remember looking at it through the reflection of cars in front of me while sitting at the red light. It was working for the first week, then I had to bring my car in for certification, and it no longer worked afterward.

I really like the fogs on, headlight off look during the daytime for some strange reason. Oh well.
