Default Car Problem

So after i drove back from Orlando today, I parked my car for a couple of hours before i wanted to go out. As i turned the car over, the motor started up but this time with a loud clicking noise. I would say that the lifters have been quite noisy before, since it is an old car. But now theres one really loud click. Im wondering if it is the lifters, a lifter, maybe lifter spring.... any ideas and wether or not it needs fixing or just a sign of old age that can be left alone. How much am i looking at??
Im going back to school FRIDAY and i need closure on this sooner rather then later. Thanks guys.

Our lifters won't make a ticking noise even if there was almost no oil in the engine. I would get the oil pressure checked, if that checks out the ticking noise is most likely coming from the hydraulic cam tensioner on the back of the head. Replace that and you should be good.

That is basically how Id describe what happened when my Ignition Switch went out. It makes the starter stay partially engaged and make a clicking.

Well i immediately think lifters just because its the sounds ive been hearing for a long time just one is alot louder then the others. My dad will have me take it to a shop regardless at this point, i just hope i can suggest what might be wrong with it so they spend less time dicking around with it.

1. check oil pressure if ok replace cam chain tensioner that i spoke of.
2. if the pressure is not up to par, pull valve cover and check for cam bearing wear
3. if bearing wear is acceptable replace the oil pick up tube and check pressure, if the pressure was low and you replace the pick up tube there probably won't be a ticking noise anymore.

My car also needs a timing belt soon, if any of these problems check off, would it be a good idea to get the belt done too?

The timing belt should always be done around 80k, so if you're near that mileage get the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat done.
