Downpipe comes off the turbo, catback starts after that.

I have a catback and doesn't include the downpipe. NORMALLY a cat back system is from where the downpipe ends back on an a4, a downpipe is right after the cat and the cat is right before the turbo. So it goes Turbo, CAT, downpipe, catback at least on the B5. It all depends on how the tuner calls it or the company, don't assume you get a downpipe if it says catback. Research which exhuast you want and look for sound clips. I would hate buying exhaust and not knowing how it sounded; you put it on and sound like the civic or neon you see everyday.

Remember that Audi A4 1.8t has the the CAT bolter directly to the turbo. SO from that CAT back should me the entire exhasut encluding down pipe. The difference is, say on a WRX, the down pipe is before the CAT which is located under the carriage of the car (like most cars). Therefore, in that case, CAT back is enitrely different.
Having the CAT where the A4 does is one of the reasons that AUDI A4 is a ULEV car! Meaning that is is like the hybrids in being an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle. Click below to read more!
