it bothers me when people charge crazy amount of money for a tiny thing. other day my frineds check engine light came on do to his catalytic converter and dealer quoted him $495 just for the converter+the installment. vw jetta vr6 asked for 900 dollars i couldnt believe it. mine as well buy a exaust sytem with that money its crazy is like made out of gold lol.

dealers must install obd-II certified catalytic converters, the converters arnt really all that special however they have to be certified by EPA prior and we all know the goverment likes there taxes. so thats why so much money, however you can go buy a 130.00 catalytic converter yourself and take it to any exhaust shop and as long as the catalytic converter on the car is bad they can cut it off and replace it for you, i dont know where you live but where i am in california there is alot of laws about replacing catalytic converters and such.

I agree... I'm guessing you have a 1.8 so you're looking at 1 cat... us 2.8ers have to worry about to... got a $475 extimate from dealer.... each.... lol... I am opting to get a full exhaust (precats -> y-pipe -> 1 HFC/TP -> resonator -? muffler) the entire job might cost around or less than 1 cat from the stealership... decisions decisions.... custom exhaust job from after precat to before muffler??? or spend double on 2 cats, with stock exhaust......... .... ... I can't decide

If your car has less then 80k miles then the cats are covered by warranty from the government. If you have that many miles or less Id look into that more.
