Ok, this has happened to me twice in the last few weeks. After a day of doing a lot amount of driving, the CEL will come on, and ill make plans to go get it checked out, but it always happens that I fill up with gas just before, and the CEL goes away.

I know that problems with the gas cap can set that off, but is there anything specifically that would cause it to be like this?

Probably, you have to give the cap several good turns.

The codes should still be stored even if the CEL is now off.

 

How many turns? I give mine 5 and it still goes on and off now and again.

 

i stop turning when the cap starts to click because i dont think it will go on any tighter after that, am i wrong?

 

Yea but I don't think that would cause the light to come on.

 

I think he means that AFTER he gets gas the cel goes away.
