Sounds like it, on a V6 there is two output stages, one for each bank, just make sure you change the correct one.
Cylinder 1,2,3 is on the passengers side.

2 output stages?? now youve just completly confused melol.
you said that theICM isaka output stages right? i only have 1 i think..... mine is located ontop of the airfilter box. brown with a silver bottom, if i have two icm's then wheres the other one becuase i had no clue about the second one.
my service manual dosnt say much about this.
i always thought it went....
L1 from the icm > the first coil pack > cylinder 1 & 6
L2 from the icm > the second coil pack > cylinder 2 &5
L3 from the icm > the third coil pack > cylinder 3 & 4

my engine for refrence...............

Yeah you only have one, i didn't know you had the old 12v engine, if there were two they would be right next to each other.

Ignition power output stage 1 just means its the first one out of two, since you only have one installed for both banks your only gonna get a fault for the 1. Pin L1 should just be for a respective cylinder, probably cylinder 1.

i pulled all 3 codes off though...... stage 1, 2 and 3.
i'll have to buy an icm or borrow one from someone in my local chapter and borrow their vag-com to see what codes i get after, once i get back in touch with them. for some resone my local chapters forums have gone very quiet the last couple of days.
thanks for you help and clarifying a lot of stuff up for methough! appreciate it.

Its cool, but thats a good idea, thats how we diagnose bad ICM's by changing out them that has like a bad miss on cylinder 2 and we swap it out with one that has a bad miss on cyl 3 or something and erase the faults. If the fault codes change of course you know its the ICM.
